The salt mine of Nemocón are the second largest salt mine in Colombia and it’s just outside of Bogotá. So take the chance of getting to know this amazing engineering masterpiece. It has become very quickly one of the most amazing and interesting touristic sights, especially because it has a mining, scientific, historical and cultural background. You will also have the opportunity of walking around the beautiful colonial village.

This mine has more than 500 years of history within it’s marvelous 1,600 meters of tunnels and chambers. The spectacular brine mirrors and lighting effects will mesmerize as well. This mine functioned between 1816 and 1968, where about 8 millions tons of salt were extracted from it. Then, 38 years after it closed, it opened its doors as a touristic attraction.

Upon exiting, we will head to the colonial village of Zipaquirá, a beautiful village about 20 minutes away from Nemocón. We will walk through the main square, where you will learn more about its history. To end this wonderful tour, will have time to taste the delicious baked goods of the region and we will have a stop at the local handicraft market.
