As you walk through Colombian cities, you see a variety of snacks, fruits, and juices sold by street vendors and little restaurants. You might have wondered about the ingredients, and what is best to try as oftentimes there are no signs to tell you what is offered. Join our tour to get to know our delicious Colombian food with local fresh ingredients.

We’ll start the Medellin Food Tour at the main square of Envigado, a popular place to relax and enjoy the view of the majestic white church while being surrounded by trees in the midst of the city. Before we start exploring the area and its delicious food, let’s get an insight of the town and its history. Did you know that Pablo Escobar, Colombia’s most successful drug lord, grew up in Envigado?

Next, we’ll walk the short distance to our first stops. Sampling and learning about Colombia´s favorites like buñuelos, arepas and pandebonos it’s hard to choose a favorite. A hearty dish or one of the many sweet goods or a combination of both – there are many options.

We will be surprised about the many different types of arepas, a flatbread made of corn flour. Depending on the meal it can be stuffed or topped with various ingredients. Especially the arepa de choclo is a delicious sweet creation usually eaten with a thick slice of farmer’s cheese. We’ll make sure we don’t miss out on this tasty experience!

Another stop will be at a cart for churros, an addictive fried-dough pastry. There we learn why they are pressed through a star-shaped opening and can ask about churros in different countries.

After, we will walk a little further we arrive at Envigado’s local market, packed with vegetables, fruits, meat, fish and a lot more. Here we get to choose different sorts of exotic juice, typically mixed with water or milk, depending on your preference. We’ll also talk to fruit vendors and learn about different fruits and for what they are used best. Our last stop at the market will be at a fruit stand to sample every fruit you feel curious about.

Back on the street, our taste buds might need a little break, so why not explore the area for a bit and have a look at the many popular antique stores in Envigado before we are ready for another mouth-watering specialty.
We’ll have lunch in an authentic Colombian restaurant with the best bandeja paisa – a traditional lunch of the area with rice, red beans, meat and a lot more. During lunch, it’s also a good chance to try aguardiente, Colombia’s most popular anise-flavored liqueur.

After lunch, you’ll return to your hotel or to another destination you’d like to continue your day in Medellín.
